Obituary of Maria Margarida Arruda

ARRUDA, Maria Margarida (March 24, 1936 - August 14, 2021) – Passed peacefully with family by her side at Santé Manitouwadge Health. Beloved wife of Hermano for 61 amazing years. Cherished mother of the late José Francisco, Maria (Joe), Fatima (Kevin), and Paul (Jennifer). Treasured Avó to Lindsey (Toby), Melissa (Brett), Drake (Denika), Brady, and Athena. Great Avó to Amelia, Jayda, Kinsley, and Alex. Margarida is predeceased by her parents Leonel Silva and Agostinha Costa, as well as her brothers José and Alfredo. Margarida will also be remembered by her brothers and sisters in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and the countless friends she has made over the years in Manitouwadge. Margarida was born and raised in Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel, Azores. It was there that she met and married Hermano. In 1976 Margarida and their children moved to Manitouwadge to be with Hermano, who had first came to Canada in 1967 to work. Margarida was a woman of great faith. She was a devout Catholic, and a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. One of her favourite pastimes was reading her beloved Cruzada. Margarida also loved tending to her flower garden and decorating the church with her flowers. Margarida was a kindhearted woman, and will be affectionately remembered for her soft-spoken nature, her friendly smile, and her warm hugs. Donations in memory of Margarida made to the Diabetes Association, Kidney Foundation, or Santé Manitouwadge Health would be greatly appreciated by her family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday August 18, 2021, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Funeral Mass to follow Thursday August 19, 2021 at 11 a.m. Officiated by Reverend Jerome Nnanna. Interment to follow at Manitouwadge Municipal Cemetery.
